Capturing community perceptions in East Herts
Green Heart Partnership - East Herts District Council
East Herts District Council worked with digital media artist, Karen Lois Whiteread, to creatively consult with the community on the Sele Estate and capture their perceptions on DVD.
The aims and objectives of this project were to bring together the cross-departmental working group to work with a digital artist to produce a high-quality piece of digital art that will inform the future development of the open space provision for young people at Sele Farm.
Responding to the Council’s desire to engage with the broad range of the community on the estate, including hard-to-reach individuals and groups, they tasked artist Karen Lois Whiteread to explore new approaches to the consultation process. Starting in December 2005, through a programme of filmed interviews and activities, the consultation has reached parts of the community that the council had previously found difficult to reach through traditional communication methods. The results of this consultation will be presented as a short DVD that will inform the planning for the redevelopment of the open space around the community centre, and the management of the centre.
