ESSEXstreetdiversions

free international street theatre

Next event: Friday 19 May 2006

Insite in partnership with Chelmsford Borough Council organized this major showcase of international street theatre in May 2006. ‘ESSEXstreetdiversions’, which originated in Chelmsford, was developed into a three day tour of the county and a further three day festival and large finale show in Chelmsford.

The tour visited Harlow, Rayleigh and Braintree and featured a variety of weird and wonderful shows by seven international street theatre companies. It then moved to Chelmsford where 18 different companies performed in over 60 acts.

The overall enjoyment of the event proved to be extremely positive with 52.8% of the public stating that the experience was excellent and 46.4% recognising to have obtained a more positive image of the county after attending the event.

The event culminated with a magnificent 'Twilight Spectacle' in Chelmsford attended by more than 3,000 people. Renowned Argentinean Theatre Company 'Grupo Puja!' performed their UK premiere of the acrobatic spectacle 'K@osmos' in Chelmsford Central Park.

This breathtaking performance included a mixture of circus and dance choreography from a globe suspended 40 metres above the crowd. 84% of the public that attended this particular event considered it of 'magnificent' quality.
